Market

From Dawn of Embers Wiki

The Market lets you buy and sell resources for Gold. It is opened from your Trading Hub. Prices depend on the map's biome and move as you trade.

Using the market

  • Select one of your finished Trading Hubs and press Open Marketplace. The market opens in its own window.
  • You can trade only at your own Trading Hub, and only once it is finished.
  • Gold is the currency. You buy a resource with Gold and sell a resource for Gold.
  • The tradable resources are Wood, Stone, Food, Leather and Fibre. Gold itself is not bought or sold.
  • Trades are made in lots of 100 of the resource. One order can be for 1 to 10 lots.
  • The window has buttons to trade one lot or several at once. A button you cannot afford is greyed out, and its tooltip says why.
  • An order either goes through in full or not at all. A purchase is refused if you do not have the Gold; a sale is refused if you do not have the resource.

How prices work

Each resource has a base price per lot, set for each biome (see the table below). The price you actually pay is the base price times a price multiplier, which starts at 1.

  • Buying a lot costs the base price × the multiplier (rounded up).
  • Selling a lot pays 70% of that (the market keeps a 30% spread, rounded down).
  • Every lot you buy raises that resource's multiplier by 4%. Every lot you sell lowers it by 4%.
  • A large order is priced lot by lot, so the price climbs (or falls) within the order.
  • The multiplier never goes below 0.5 or above 3.0.
  • Over time the multiplier drifts back toward 1: each minute it closes 15% of the remaining gap, so about half of any change wears off in 4.6 minutes.
  • Prices are personal. Each player has their own multiplier for each resource. Your trades move only your prices, not your opponents'.

Because the spread (30%) is much larger than the price change per lot (4%), buying and then immediately selling always loses Gold. The market cannot be used to make Gold from nothing.

Worked example

On a Forest map, Wood has a base price of 50 Gold per lot.

  • Buying 1 lot (100 Wood) costs 50 Gold. Selling 1 lot pays 35 Gold.
  • After buying one lot, your Wood multiplier is 1.04. The next lot costs 52.
  • Buying 5 lots in one order costs 50 + 52 + 55 + 57 + 59 = 273 Gold.
  • Selling 5 lots in one order pays 35 + 33 + 32 + 31 + 29 = 160 Gold.
  • At the highest multiplier (3.0) a lot of Wood costs 150 to buy and pays 105 to sell.

Prices by biome

Base prices in Gold per lot of 100, at multiplier 1. Buy / Sell. The rarer a resource is on a map, the dearer it is there. The Desert is designed with few trees beyond each start, so Wood there costs three times its Forest price: the market is meant to supply the Desert's Wood.

Biome Wood Stone Food Leather Fibre
Forest 50 / 35 90 / 63 55 / 38 80 / 56 60 / 42
Snowy Forest 50 / 35 85 / 59 80 / 56 70 / 49 90 / 63
Snowy Mountain 70 / 49 60 / 42 90 / 63 70 / 49 100 / 70
Desert 150 / 105 60 / 42 90 / 63 80 / 56 70 / 49
Ocean 80 / 56 100 / 70 45 / 31 90 / 63 80 / 56
Default 70 / 49 85 / 59 70 / 49 80 / 56 80 / 56

Default prices apply on any map type that has no row of its own. All rows share the same rules: lots of 100, a 30% spread, a 4% change per lot, 15% recovery per minute, and limits of 0.5 to 3.0.

The October 2026 demo build plays on the Forest map only.

These are starting values and may be tuned.

Trade routes

The Trading Hub also trains Trade Carts, which earn Gold by travelling to an ally's Trading Hub and back. See Trading Hub.

Computer opponents

A computer player with little Gold (under 150) may sell its largest surplus resource at the market, a few lots at a time. It does not buy.
