The Dawn of Embers demo is a limited version of Dawn of Embers. It offers the opening of the Story campaign and a curated Skirmish, so players can try the core game: gathering, building, training an army and fighting.

The demo is in preparation and has not been released to the public. This page describes the limits built into the current demo build; they can change before release.

How to get it

The demo is delivered through the Dawn of Embers launcher, which downloads, installs and updates the game. Access is granted per account: the account page on the official site lists "Demo access" for an account that has it, and has a form to redeem a demo code. Public availability has not been announced.

What the demo contains

Mode In the demo
Story The first three missions of the campaign
Skirmish One curated setup: Forest biome, Medium map, up to 4 players, AI up to Normal
Multiplayer Not available
Ranked Not available

Limits

Options the demo does not offer stay visible but greyed out. Hovering over one shows the tooltip "Not available yet in the demo version". The lobby adds no extra text; the tooltip is the only note.

Story

  • The demo offers Missions 1 to 3. Later missions are not available.
  • Winning the last mission the demo offers ends the demo: an end-of-demo card appears, with a button back to the main menu.

Skirmish

Setting Full game Demo
Map type Forest, Snowy Forest, Snowy Mountain, Desert, Ocean Forest only
Map size X-Small, Small, Medium, Large, X-Large Medium only
Players Up to 8, by map size Up to 4 (for example 2v2)
AI difficulty Very Easy, Easy, Normal, Hard, Very Hard, Brutal Very Easy, Easy, Normal
Map seed Any seed, or a rolled one Chosen for you from a small set of tested maps; the seed field is greyed
Ranked A Multiplayer lobby setting Off

If an unavailable setting still reaches a match (for example from an older saved setting), the game puts it back to a demo setting and says so once in the match chat.

Online play

All online play is greyed out in the demo, each control with the same tooltip:

  • hosting an online game;
  • hosting a LAN game;
  • joining a game, including its game list and refresh;
  • the account page (signing in).

Story, Skirmish (the solo game), Settings and Quit stay available. The game also refuses an incoming connection in the demo, so a demo cannot host or join a match by any other route.

Saves

The demo keeps its saves separate from the full game's: every demo save slot's name starts with demo_, so a demo and a full game on the same PC never read or overwrite each other's saves.

What is the same as the full game

Within those limits the demo runs the same game: the same rules, units, buildings, Callings, Disciplines and Pillars. Numbers on this wiki apply to the demo unless a page says otherwise.
