Dawn of Embers is a real-time strategy (RTS) game for Windows PC, in development at DTX Studios. Players grow a camp into a walled town, gather resources, train an army and fight AI or human opponents on maps generated from a shared seed. Its setting is a war-torn world in which carved stone Pillars rose from the earth, woke, and left behind the embers from which magic was born.

The game is in development. Full release is expected in Q2 2027. Everything on this wiki describes a development build and can change before release.

Overview

A match follows the classic RTS loop: villagers gather resources and construct buildings, buildings train units, and armies fight for control of the map. Dawn of Embers adds three systems of its own:

  • Callings: before a match, each player picks a Calling, a specialisation that strengthens one part of their kingdom (for example gathering, melee combat or building).
  • Disciplines: each player spends 20 Discipline points across six categories before the match. Committed points cannot be taken back during that game.
  • Pillars: magical obelisks that appear during a match. Mages charge a Pillar by standing near it, and a charged Pillar unleashes elemental power: Fire, Lightning, Earth or Water.

Units range from villagers to infantry, archers, cavalry, siege engines, ships and mages of four elements. See Units, Buildings and Resources for details, and Gameplay mechanics for how the systems work.

Ways to play

The game has three ways to play: a Story campaign, Skirmish against AI opponents, and Multiplayer for 2 to 8 players, with ranked leaderboards. See Game modes.

Setting

The game opens in an age when war has always been fought with spears, swords and siege engines. Pillars of carved stone rose out of the earth, came to life on one dark day, and sank back, leaving embers behind them. From those embers, magic was born. The player serves as a captain in the army of the kingdom of Ashmere. See The world.

Maps

Maps are procedurally generated: every player's game builds the same world from one shared seed. Five biomes are planned for launch (Forest, Snowy Forest, Snowy Mountain, Desert and Ocean) in five map sizes, from X-Small to X-Large. See Biomes.

Game speed

The game runs at one fixed speed. There is no speed-up, slow-down or pause, including in single-player.

Development

Dawn of Embers is made by a solo developer at DTX Studios. In October 2026 the developer wrote that the game had been in the works for close to three years. Development progress is posted as dev updates on the official site.

The Steam and Epic Games Store pages opened for wishlists in September 2026. A Kickstarter campaign for physical Founder editions is listed in the official press kit as running from 17 November to 17 December 2026.

Editions

Pre-orders are open on the official site in three digital editions: Ember Edition (the base game), Dawn Founder (adds a Founder nameplate) and Eternal Founder (adds the Elite Founder nameplate, a reserved in-game display name and an optional Honor Roll entry). Nameplates are cosmetic. For current prices, boxed editions and the full terms, see the pre-order page and the FAQ.

Demo

A demo is in preparation. It is limited to the first story missions and a curated 2v2 skirmish. See Demo.
